Hooked on the Rocks, Falmouth
This restaurant has stunning views, as it overlooks the turquoise waters of Swanpool Beach, and was recently included in the Michelin Guide. Head Chef George Morgan and his team serve up a wonderful menu of fresh seafood, simple dishes cooked incredibly well. We tried one of their seafood platters, which was piled high with tiger prawns, mussels, white fish and squid, served in a garlicky tomato sauce. It was utterly delicious!
The Rockpool Beach Cafe, Gwithian
The Rockpool Beach Café serves up some epic seafood dishes, which quite frankly blew us away with their taste and quality. We began our meal with platters of oysters served with sherry vinaigrette. These were followed by mains of Thai green curry with Cornish fish and a warm scallop salad. It was the curry that stole the show. Crammed with beautifully cooked monkfish and other Cornish seafood, it was flavoured to perfection with whole spices, galangal and fresh lemongrass – a 10/10 from us!
W Stevenson & Sons, Newlyn
This is a fishmonger that sells the catch landed in Newlyn Harbour 100 yards away, alongside a selection of fish tapas and meals, such as homemade fish pies and crab cakes. This is basically the freshest fish you can buy, as it comes straight from the fishing boat to the fish shop.
Hotel Meudon, Maenporth
The hotel is located just a stone’s throw from Maenporth Beach, and is definitely worth a visit. Head Chef Darren Kerley creates light, seasonal cuisine, making the most of Cornwall’s abundant larder. We sampled chargrilled asparagus topped with sweet crab and a Chardonnay beurre blanc, followed up by a beautifully cooked half lobster dripping with garlic butter.
The Fowey House Harbour Hotel
The Fowey House Harbour Hotel offers British cuisine with an emphasis on locally sourced fresh fish. We tried a light, fresh crab salad followed by a delicious salmon fillet with roasted tomatoes, saffron poached potatoes and a chive veloute – excellent accompaniments to a fish cooked to perfection.
The Hidden Hut, Porthcurnick
Once one of Cornwall’s best-kept secrets, the Hidden Hut has outdoor seating with panoramic views of Porthcurnick Beach and cooks some of the tastiest soul food you’re likely to try, using the finest fish, meat and vegetables. The lunch menu varies; expect smoky seafood chowders, chunky crab sandwiches and a wide variety of vegetarian options.
