From flavoured gin to hand-sliced smoked salmon, here are some of the standout products created by winners of the Great British Food Awards

Every year, hundreds of artisan producers from across the country enter our Great British Food Awards, with everything from artisan gin to slow-reared meat products. We and our celebrity judges love having the chance to sample them. We also like hearing about any new products they’ve released. Here’s a handpicked list of some of our favourites - plus where to get hold of them!

Deerness Distillery consistently wins awards for its lovingly distilled craft spirits. The most recent addition is its Vára Gin, a brand new Orkney Craft Pink Gin. ‘Vára’ means ‘become spring’ in Old Norse, and each sip of this light, floral gin will transport you to spring time. Made with botanicals ranging from tarragon and elderflower to lemongrass and vanilla, this is a Juniper-led gin with herbaceous and citrus notes, leading to a sweet rose finish. Serve garnished with rose petals or with elderflower tonic, and garnished with a lime peel twist.

We can’t get enough of last year’s award-winning flavoured gin, Rhubarb Old Tom. The judge, Martha Collison, said ‘this gin is simply outstanding - and probably the best I’ve ever had the pleasure of trying! It is Turkish delight in a bottle, heady with rose, cinnamon and sweet rhubarb.’ Old tom is a style of gin that dates back to the 18th century, and is renowned for its sweet, smooth finish.
