Making your own pasta, cooking more than one dish at a time and being able to gut a trout in under five minutes are just some of the signs you’re an accomplished cook according to new research

The nationwide study commissioned by Residence Inn by Marriott found the explosion of foodie culture is such that 52 percent of British adults say their culinary skills are on par with a professional chef.

A fifth of Brits shun recipes and cook instead by ‘instinct’, with more than one in ten (12 percent) claiming they express themselves through experimentation and creation in the kitchen.

20 percent of Brits say they always modify recipes to give them their own personal twist, 68 percent class themselves as excellent or good cooks, and a massive 81 percent said they demand complete control of their kitchen.

The study also found that a busy 38 percent of the nation said they use cooking as a way to unwind and relax at the end of a hard day’s work, with 39 percent finding it an immensely enjoyable activity and 19 percent saying it is soothing.
