Edible Gifts: Homemade Marmalade Gin

  • Time preparation 15 minutes, plus 2 weeks infusing time
  • Serve Serves 800ml

This recipe is the first in our 'edible gifts' series - easy to make, homemade presents you can gift to family and friends for Christmas and beyond! All you need is a jar of marmalade, some gin and a little bit of time. It really is that simple!

Recipe provided by Rosie Jameson
  • 1 jar of good quality chunky marmalade
  • 1 70cl bottle of supermarket gin

Empty the marmalade into a large jar and pour the gin over it.

Stir until blended, cover and set to one side for around two weeks. Stir or shake occasionally - this will help the gin infuse.

Place a sieve over a large jug and pour the contents of the jar through the sieve - save the marmalade peel!

Either return the marmalade gin to the original bottle or decant into smaller bottles to store. If you want to make a really bespoke present, keep your eye out for vintage glass bottles you could use to pour the gin into. And a homemade label is a must!

TOP TIP: Line a tray with non-stick baking parchment. Blot the drained peel with kitchen paper and distribute evenly over the tray Melt 2 bars plain chocolate in a small bowl either in the microwave or over a pan of hot water then pour over the orange peel pieces. Leave to set and then break into large shards. Can be stored in a sealed jar. Serve the marmalade gin in small glasses to sip while nibbling the dark, orange chocolate bark.
