DEWLAY GARSTANG BLUE, £17 PER KG BOOTHS SUPERMARKETS

Made in the verdant Lancashire countryside, this smooth, creamy cheese has a wonderfully delicate taste. It coats the mouth nicely and would pair nicely with sloe gin. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate the start of the autumn months!

TICKLEMORE, £9.75 PER 250G PAXTONANDWHITFIELD.CO.UK

This fresh and zesty goat’s cheese has a creamy lemon tang followed by a moreish, salty flavour. The strong, acidic taste makes it an ideal candidate to stand up to punchy, herbaceous gins.

CORNISH BLUE, £6.25 FOR 250G PAXTONANDWHITFIELD.CO.UK

A soft cheese with dense texture and a buttery yet tangy flavour that works well with rich sloe gins or stone fruit. It is not overpowered by excessive blue tones, making it delicate enough to work with more robust spirits.

DELAMERE DAIRY GOATS CHEESE, £2.65 FOR 150G BOOTHS & SPAR

A moreish and salty cheese that can be sliced on to crackers and devoured with your favourite G&T. A juniper-led gin is the perfect choice to compete with its acidity.

GOLDEN CROSS, £9.75 FOR 225G PAXTONANDWHITFIELD.CO.UK

Experiment with interesting textures by pairing this decadent goat’s cheese with a distinctive floral gin and you’ll see why gin and cheese is a perfect match. Golden Cross is sweet, soft and grassy with an ice-cream like texture which will stand up to a strong spirit.

ALSOP & WALKER LORD LONDON SEE IN STORE FOR PRICES, AVAILABLE AT BOROUGH MARKET OR CAN BE ORDERED AT SALES@ALSOPANDWALKER.CO.UK

A semi-soft bell shaped cheese with a slightly zingy aftertaste and a natural creaminess. Made from pasteurised cow’s milk, Lord London is a match made in heavy for citruslead gins. Enjoy them together for a taste of sunshine.

We also asked Hero Hirsh, Manager of Paxton & Whitfield, for her expert tips on pairing gin with cheese…

“When you’re putting together a cheese and a gin there are a couple of things that you should consider, one of which would be the feel that the gin leaves in your mouth. Some are quite creamy in texture so I like to pair them with a dry crumbly cheese. It’s also important to consider the botanicals. Is your spirit spice-lead, citrusy, floral or herbaceous? Sheep and goat’s milk cheeses work really well with floral and herbaceous gins such as rosemary, coriander and juniper.”
