Easy Bread Sauce

Easy Bread Sauce
It's the classic accompaniment for your Christmas turkey, but we also think bread sauce pairs perfectly with game! Creamy and lightly spiced, it's one of our favourite traditional British sauces!

10 minutes prep, 20 minutes cook

Serves 8

Ingredients

500ml milk

½ onion

2 cloves

1 bayleaf

Sprig of thyme

200g sliced white bread (crusts removed)

Method

Put the milk in a saucepan, and heat it on a low heat with the onion, clove, bay leaf and thyme for 10 minutes, allowing the flavours to infuse.

Chop the bread into small pieces. Strain the milk through a sieve and place back onto the heat, add the bread pieces and cook until thickened.

Season with salt and pepper, then serve. It's common for bread sauce to be served at room temperature, like many condiments are.
