Simon Taylor has been working in traditional butcher’s shops since the age of 13 (he is now 39). He currently owns and operates the Surrey Hills Butchers and has helped to rejuvenate the butchery trade with his enthusiasm, passion and eye for a rare breed or forgotten cut.
Such are his skills, he is considered one of the best butchers in the country, and is captain of the British team in the World Butchers Challenge.
“A lot of people don’t realise we have a Team GB called ‘British Beefeaters’. We are six qualified butchers and compete against butchers around the world,” he explains.
Simon makes regular appearances at live shows and festivals across the UK, such as the Taste of London, and has consulted on several TV shows, including Jamie Oliver’s Friday Night Feast.
