Founder & Master Blender of Devon Based Hattiers Rum, Philip Everett-Lyons certainly knows his way around the world’s finest rum distilleries.
When Philip returned home to the South Hams in Devon following a decade in film and television to start a family business, rum seemed the obvious choice given the region’s seafaring heritage and his personal love of sailing. “Gin was on the rise, but I felt rum was really undervalued. Yet it’s a very versatile, elegant spirit” he explains. Named after Philip’s eldest daughter Henrietta, Hattiers launched in 2017 and has since undoubtedly become one of the fastest growing rum brands in the UK and the finest blender.
With a fresh take on the traditional art of rum blending, Philip currently sources tropically aged rums from over 25 distilleries from around the world including the Caribbean, Central America and Australia that are incredible in their own right and makes them even better by marrying them with other rare and fine rums that would never usually meet, creating exquisite and accessible signature blends just 800 yards from the water’s edge on the Flete Estate’s stunning coastline.
Beyond the versatile and exquisite rum that they produce, Hattiers has always been driven by purpose and it dictates everything that they do. All decisions made are conscious ones and as the UK’s first B Corp certified rum they like to give back more than they take. “It’s important to us and our authenticity as a B Corp business that everything is done sustainably, here on our estate.”
