Jack Monroe is a British food writer, journalist and activist who first rose to fame because of her blog ‘Cooking on a Bootstrap’ (initially known as A Girl Called Jack) which provided low-cost family meals for less than £10 a week. She has since published 6 cookbooks, the most recent being ‘Good Food for Bad Days’, which are aimed at those cooking on a budget.
She works with Oxfam, the Trussell Trust, Child Poverty Action Group, Plan Zheroes, the Food Chain and many food banks, schools and children’s centres to teach people to cook and eat well on a low income, and campaigns against the causes of poverty and austerity in Britain and abroad.
