A babka cake is a thing of beauty. Glossily sheened with a sugar syrup, the brioche-like dough tears apart to reveal nuggets of toasted nuts, spices, flavoured custards, or devilishly dark chocolate spread.

We’ve switched up this bake (hailing from Eastern and Central Europe), giving it a GBF twist. Cottage Delight’s Spiced Tomato & Onion Chutney replaces chocolate, with a liberal hand of Belton Farm’s Silver Fox cheese.

Instead of syrup, the ‘cake’ is brushed with Renishaw Hall Gardens Honey. And as a cherry on top, there’s a dusting of Firefly Barbecue Oak Smoked Greek Pyramid Salt which, quite honestly, we’re putting on everything at the moment.

Tear and share it (it’s brilliant warm for breakfast, taken out on picnics, or alongside a soup), or cut it into slices, top with yet more cheese, and grill for snacking perfection.
