Smeg 50's Retro Kettle in Pastel Green, £149

Splashing out on a colourful kettle, like this fabulous retro Smeg one, is a stylish and practical way of brightening up your kitchen. Its 1.7 litre capacity makes up to 7 drinks at once, so you can keep all your guests’ mugs full. They’ll never wait long for a delicious cup of tea or coffee either, as its 3000 Watt power output boils water in no time. Thanks to its 360 degree connection, it’s easy to pick up and pour, and the handy water gauge shows how much water is left inside. Your drinks will always taste great too, as the limescale filter improves the quality of every cup. We love the Pastel Green colour, but there are plenty of other options to choose from.

Air fryer magic

If you’ve not yet been initiated into the world of the air fryer (those in the know rave about them and there are countless Facebook groups dedicated to cooking with them), it’s a handy appliance that uses hot air circulation to cook food quickly and with minimal energy usage; the latter will be something that’s particularly important to us all as gas and electricity prices continue to rise.

The main draw, though, is the air fryer’s ability to make food go crispy with barely any oil, something the Magic Bullet Air Fryer (£59.99) does extremely well. We used it to make bacon, breaded chicken and homemade chips and everything we tested ended up cooked to perfection. Ideal for households with a premium on counter space, the fryer is a little powerhouse with a 2.5L capacity that cooks just the right amount for a small household. The wide temperature range of 80°C to 200°C lets you tackle food and recipes of all types, and it’s particularly easy to clean too.
