This Sunday, the last before advent, cooks up and down the country will be setting to work on their Christmas puddings for Stir-Up Sunday - and according to research from Waitrose & Partners, online searches for ‘Christmas pudding’ are up 21% year on year.
Dating back to the Victorian era, the tradition of Stir-Up Sunday is a fun family affair, with the idea being that everyone should get a turn to mix the Christmas pud mixture. Searches on Waitrose.com show that shoppers are prepared for the big event, with key ingredients such as candied peel (+54%), dried fruit mix (+28%), brandy (+22%) and fresh nutmeg (+38%) all up compared to last year.
